“Banned” is used loosely for several different Telegram restrictions. Before doing anything, identify which one you have: the fix for a temporary spam limit is completely different from a banned phone number, and sending the wrong kind of appeal only wastes time.

1. Spam limit, account ban or number ban?

What you seeWhat it usually meansFirst step
You can read chats but cannot message people who do not have your number, or cannot add users to groupsA spam limit on the account, often temporaryMessage @SpamBot to see the status and the end date, if any
You were logged out and the account shows as deleted or deactivatedThe account was banned for Terms of Service violationsTry logging in again and follow the help option shown by the app
“This phone number is banned” when you try to log in or sign upThe number itself is blocked from TelegramUse the in-app help link, or email Telegram's recovery address shown there
A channel or group shows “can't be displayed”The chat itself was restricted, usually on some platforms or for specific contentReview the chat's content against Telegram's rules; appeal from the owner account. Details: can't be displayed explained

2. Common reasons accounts get banned

  • Many users reporting your messages as spam, especially after messaging strangers in bulk.
  • Automated behaviour: mass-adding people to groups, unofficial clients or scripts that send messages at scale.
  • Content that breaks Telegram's Terms of Service in public chats you run.
  • Suspicious login patterns: a brand-new account on a new number that immediately joins many groups and messages many people.
  • Numbers previously involved in abuse. Recycled or low-quality virtual numbers are sometimes already flagged.

3. How to appeal correctly

  1. Use the official route only. When Telegram shows a ban message, the app usually offers a help option that opens an email to Telegram's support address. Use that address, not one found in a random chat.
  2. Write briefly and factually. Include the phone number in international format, the approximate date it happened, and a short, honest explanation of how you use Telegram.
  3. Do not send repeated emails or open many parallel requests; it does not speed things up.
  4. Be patient. Responses can take days, and not every appeal receives a personal reply.
Warning: anyone offering to “unban” an account for a fee in exchange for your login code is running a scam. Never share a Telegram login code or two-step verification password with anyone.

4. If the ban is not lifted

If the appeal fails, the account and its chats cannot usually be recovered. You can export important data from other devices while they are still logged in, notify contacts through other channels, and start again with a clean number. Starting with a new account means going through the higher-scrutiny early period again, which is why some businesses prefer an aged account with a longer history.

5. How to avoid bans in the future

DoAvoid
Warm up a new account gradually: profile photo, a few chats, normal usageJoining dozens of groups and messaging strangers on day one
Grow groups with invite links, content and cross-promotionMass-adding users who never asked to join
Use official Telegram appsUnofficial clients and automation scripts
Enable two-step verification and a recovery emailSharing login codes or session files
Keep a steady IP and device pattern after receiving an accountLogging in from many countries within hours

If you bought an aged account, follow our post-delivery checklist during the first days, since sudden changes in device, location and activity are exactly the patterns Telegram's systems watch.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a Telegram ban last?

Spam limits are often temporary and @SpamBot shows the end date. Account and phone-number bans are usually permanent unless Telegram accepts an appeal.

How do I contact Telegram about a banned number?

Use the help option that the Telegram app shows with the ban message; it opens an email to the official support address. Include your number in international format and a short explanation.

Can I recover chats from a banned account?

Usually not after the ban. If another device is still logged in, export what you need immediately.

Why was my new account banned so quickly?

New accounts that immediately join many groups, message strangers or use automation are treated with more suspicion. Warm up new accounts gradually.

Does an aged account prevent bans?

No account is immune. An account with a longer, normal history tends to look less suspicious, but breaking the rules will still get it restricted.
