Every phone, computer and browser logged in to your Telegram account is listed as a session. Checking that list takes a minute and is the fastest way to spot someone else in your account.

Quick answer

Open Settings and tap Devices (on some apps Privacy and Security, Active Sessions). Tap a session you do not recognise and end it, or tap Terminate All Other Sessions. Then turn on two-step verification.

1. Where are active sessions?

  • On Android and iPhone, open Settings and tap Devices.
  • On older app versions, open Settings, Privacy and Security, Active Sessions.
  • On Telegram Desktop, open Settings, then Devices or Active Sessions.

2. How to read the list

The top row is the device you are using now. Below it, each session shows the app, the device model, the country or IP location and when it was last active. Telegram Web shows up as a browser session.

3. End one session or all of them

  • Tap a session and choose to end it. That device is logged out at once.
  • Tap Terminate All Other Sessions to log out every device except the one in your hand.
  • Ending a session does not delete your cloud chats, but secret chats on that device are lost.

A device that has only just logged in may not be allowed to end your other sessions for a while. That rule protects you if someone gets in with a stolen code.

4. You see a session you do not know

  1. End that session right away.
  2. Turn on two-step verification, or change its password if it was already on.
  3. Check the email used to recover that password.
  4. Never share the login code Telegram sends you. Telegram staff never ask for it.

If you are already locked out, read what to do when your Telegram account is hacked.

5. End old sessions automatically

At the bottom of the Devices screen you can tell Telegram to end sessions that have been inactive for a chosen period. Pick a short period if you often log in on shared computers.

Frequently asked questions

Where are active sessions in Telegram?

In Settings, Devices. In older versions it is under Privacy and Security, Active Sessions.

How do I log out of Telegram on another device?

Open Settings, Devices, tap that device and end the session, or tap Terminate All Other Sessions.

Does ending a session delete my chats?

No. Cloud chats stay. Only secret chats on that device are lost.

Why can't I end other sessions from a new device?

A device that has just logged in may have to wait before it can end older sessions. It protects the account from someone who logged in with a stolen code.

What should I do if I see an unknown session?

End it, turn on two-step verification or change its password, and never share your login code.
