A Telegram channel earns money in two broad ways: through Telegram's own monetization features, and through deals you make directly with advertisers or your audience. Most successful channels combine several methods. The right mix depends on your niche, your audience size and, above all, how engaged that audience is.

1. The eight methods at a glance

2. Official Telegram monetization tools

Ad revenue sharing

Telegram shows sponsored messages in large public channels and shares part of that advertising revenue with eligible channel owners, paid out in Gram (GRAM, formerly Toncoin) through Fragment. Eligibility conditions, such as the minimum number of subscribers and supported countries, are set by Telegram and can change, so confirm the current rules in the channel's Monetization or statistics section and Telegram's official announcements.

Telegram Stars

Stars are Telegram's in-app currency. Channel owners can publish paid media that subscribers unlock with Stars, receive paid reactions, and offer Star-based subscriptions to a private channel. Earned Stars can be withdrawn through Fragment after a holding period, according to Telegram's current terms.

Paid subscriptions to a private channel

You can charge a recurring price for access to a private channel through Stars subscription links, or through third-party payment bots. This works best for content that is clearly worth paying for every month.

3. Deals you make directly

Sponsored posts are still the main income for many channels. Advertisers care about views per post and audience fit much more than the headline subscriber number. Prepare a simple media kit: niche, average views over the last 30 days, audience geography if known, and a price per post.

Affiliate links pay a commission when your readers buy through your link. Disclose sponsored and affiliate content clearly; long-term trust is worth more than one campaign.

Cross-promotion with channels of similar size does not pay directly, but it grows the audience that every other method depends on.

4. Selling your own products

Courses, consulting, templates, physical products and services often earn more per reader than advertising, because you keep the whole margin. Telegram bots can handle orders, and a linked discussion group helps answer questions before purchase.

5. Audience first: what determines earnings

  • Engagement beats size. A channel with 5,000 subscribers and 3,000 views per post usually earns more than one with 50,000 subscribers and 1,000 views.
  • Niche matters. Finance, crypto, business and education audiences are worth more to advertisers than general entertainment.
  • Consistency. Regular posting keeps views stable, which advertisers pay for.
  • Starting point. Some owners start with an older channel that already has an established history, then build a real audience on top of it with the methods in our channel growth guide.
Avoid fake growth. Bot subscribers lower your views-per-post ratio, which makes sponsored posts harder to sell and can get a channel restricted.

6. A worked example: what a channel can earn from ads

Sponsored posts are usually priced per 1,000 views (CPM). The numbers below are an example only; real prices depend on your niche, your audience's countries and what similar channels charge.

InputExample
Average views per post (last 30 days)2,000
Example price per 1,000 views$10
Price of one sponsored post2,000 ÷ 1,000 × $10 = $20
Sponsored posts per month8
Monthly income from ads8 × $20 = $160

Doubling views per post doubles the price of every post, which is why engagement matters more than the subscriber count. Run your own numbers with the ad revenue calculator and compare offers with the ad placement comparator.

7. A 30-day plan to start earning

  1. Week 1: measure. Note your average views per post, the reach of your best posts and when your readers are active.
  2. Week 2: package. Build a one-page media kit with your niche, average views and a price per post.
  3. Week 3: sell. Offer one or two sponsored posts to brands or channels in your niche, and turn on the official tools your channel qualifies for.
  4. Week 4: review. Report results to advertisers, keep the partners that fit your audience and adjust your price to the views you actually deliver.

8. Mistakes that cut earnings

  • Too many ads. When sponsored posts crowd out content, views per post fall and every future post is worth less.
  • Off-topic sponsors. Ads that do not fit the niche lose readers and convert poorly, so advertisers do not return.
  • No disclosure. Mark sponsored and affiliate posts clearly; trust is what you are selling.
  • Selling on subscriber count. Advertisers check views; quoting subscribers instead of views leads to disputes.

9. Ways to earn on Telegram without a big channel

  • Bots with paid features. A bot can sell digital goods or premium features for Stars inside Telegram, so it can earn without any channel audience.
  • Paid groups and communities. A small group of people who value expert answers or signals can pay a subscription, often more per member than a channel earns from ads.
  • Usernames and gifts. Short public usernames and collectible gifts are traded on Fragment; read how Fragment usernames work and Telegram gifts before buying to resell.
  • Channel management for others. Admins who can write, schedule and sell ads are paid by channel owners who lack the time.
  • Selling a channel or group you no longer use. Older chats have a resale value; you can get an offer for an old channel or group.
