Fragment is Telegram's official marketplace for collectible items on the TON blockchain. Short and memorable usernames are sold there as collectibles, which means they can be owned, transferred and resold. A strong username can add real value to a channel or brand, so it helps to understand how the process works before you bid.
Quick answer
Fragment (fragment.com) is Telegram's official marketplace for collectible usernames. Connect a TON wallet, find the username, place a bid or buy it at the listed price, then assign it to your account or channel from your Fragment profile. Usernames are paid in TON and Fragment charges a 5% fee on sales.
1. What Fragment is
Fragment lets people buy and sell Telegram usernames, anonymous +888 numbers and some other Telegram items using Gram (GRAM), the coin called Toncoin (TON) until June 2026. Ownership is recorded on the TON blockchain, so a collectible username belongs to whichever wallet holds it.
| Item | What it is used for |
|---|---|
| Collectible usernames | Memorable @names for accounts, channels or bots |
| Anonymous numbers (+888) | Signing in to Telegram without a SIM card |
| Telegram Premium and Stars | Buying or gifting them with Gram |
| Payouts | Withdrawing channel ad revenue and Stars earnings |
2. How buying a username works
- Install a TON wallet (for example Tonkeeper) and fund it with Gram (formerly Toncoin).
- Open fragment.com, connect the wallet, and connect your Telegram account.
- Search the username. It may be on auction (place a bid above the current one before the timer ends), listed for sale at a fixed price, or already sold.
- If you are outbid, your bid is typically returned to your wallet. If you win, the username is sent to your wallet.
Prices depend on length, dictionary words, brandability and market demand. Very short, common words cost much more than longer niche names.
3. Assigning the username to an account or channel
Once the collectible is in your connected wallet, Fragment lets you assign it to your Telegram account or to a channel or bot you own. In Telegram it then appears as a username in the profile settings. Collectible usernames can sit alongside a regular username, and you can switch which one is shown.
4. Selling a collectible username
Owners can list a username in their wallet for auction or at a fixed price on Fragment. Fragment charges a fee on sales according to its current terms. Because the process runs on-chain, the buyer receives the username and the seller receives the TON automatically, without needing trust between them.
Sold the username: what happens to your channel?
- You sold a username, not the channel. The channel, its subscribers, its history and the owner role stay with you. Only Telegram's built-in owner transfer can change who owns the channel.
- The channel needs a new public link. Once the buyer assigns the username elsewhere, your channel no longer uses it. Set another username and update the old t.me links on your website, pinned posts and bios.
- Never hand over your account. A buyer of a username has no reason to receive your login, phone number or codes. Anyone asking for them is not completing a username deal.
- Selling the channel too? That is a separate deal: agree it in writing and move the channel with the built-in ownership transfer, step by step with the handover checklist.
5. Avoiding username scams
- Only use fragment.com. Phishing sites copy its design and ask you to connect a wallet or enter a seed phrase.
- Never share your wallet recovery phrase, with anyone and on any site.
- Be careful with private “off-Fragment” deals for collectible usernames. Using Fragment itself is what makes the trade trustless.
- Check the exact spelling. Look-alike usernames with swapped letters are common.

Buying a username on fragment.com, step by step
- Open fragment.com yourself (never through a link someone sent you) and connect your Telegram account and a TON wallet.
- Find the name in the Usernames tab. It is either on auction, for sale at a fixed price, or already owned.
- Bid or buy. Enter an amount, confirm it and pay from your wallet. If someone outbids you, Fragment returns your money; a bid that reaches the blockchain after the auction ends is also refunded.
- Receive it. After a purchase or a won auction, the username is transferred to the wallet you paid with.
- Assign it to your profile, channel or group from My Assets → Assign to Telegram, then enable it in the chat's settings.

Fees and what usernames cost
- Platform fee: Fragment charges 5% on each sale (direct sales and the winning bid of an auction).
- Conversion fee: when you convert and sell an existing basic username, a one-time conversion fee is deducted in addition to the 5%.
- Taken names: for a name someone already owns and is not selling, you can pay a small fee to notify the owner that you are interested.
- Price level: in our Telegram Asset Price Report 2026, ten short 4–5 character usernames had minimum bids between 5,635 and 10,500 Grams on 7 October 2026. Longer, less common names cost far less.
Basic username vs collectible username
| Basic username | Collectible username | |
|---|---|---|
| How you get it | Free, first come first served in Telegram settings | Bought on Fragment or converted from a basic username |
| Where ownership lives | In your Telegram account | In your TON wallet, recorded on the blockchain |
| How many per chat | One | Any number, alongside one basic username |
| Selling | No built-in way to sell | Sell or auction on Fragment |
Usernames use the letters a–z, digits and underscores, and are not case-sensitive. Telegram can reclaim basic usernames that are openly squatted or attached to unused bots and channels (Telegram FAQ).
Buying a channel that comes with a username
A collectible username is not part of a channel's ownership transfer: it stays in the seller's wallet until it is transferred to yours. If a channel deal includes a name, agree in writing whether it is a basic username (moves with the channel) or a collectible (must be transferred on Fragment). Need an old channel to put a name on? Frequently asked questions
How much does Fragment charge?
Fragment charges a 5% platform fee on each sale. Selling a converted basic username also includes a one-time conversion fee.
What happens if I am outbid on Fragment?
Your money is returned to your wallet. A bid that reaches the blockchain after the auction ends is also refunded.
How much does a short Telegram username cost?
In our October 2026 sample, minimum bids for 4–5 character usernames on Fragment ranged from 5,635 to 10,500 Grams. Longer names cost much less.
Can I buy a username that someone already owns?
Only if the owner lists it. For a name that is not for sale, Fragment lets you pay a small fee to notify the owner of your interest.
I sold my username on Fragment. Do I still own the channel?
Yes. A username sale moves only the collectible username. The channel and its owner role stay with you unless you use Telegram's ownership transfer.
Does a username buyer need my account login?
No. Never share your login, phone number or codes for a username sale; the collectible moves between wallets on Fragment.
Is Fragment official?
Yes. Fragment is the marketplace Telegram uses for collectible usernames, anonymous numbers and payouts, built on the TON blockchain.
What currency does Fragment use?
Gram (GRAM), the coin called Toncoin (TON) until June 2026, held in a TON wallet connected to Fragment.
Does a Fragment username transfer with a channel?
Not automatically. The collectible belongs to the wallet, so it has to be transferred separately on Fragment if it is part of a sale.
Can I still use a free username?
Yes. Regular usernames set in Telegram settings remain free; Fragment is for collectible usernames that can be owned and resold.
How do I avoid Fragment scams?
Use only fragment.com, never share your wallet recovery phrase, and double-check the exact username spelling before bidding.
