Translation in Telegram works in two ways: any user can translate a single message, and Telegram Premium can translate a whole chat or channel as you read it.

1. Turn on the Translate button

2. Translate a single message
Press and hold a message in another language and tap Translate. The translation opens in a small window, and you can change the target language there. This works for every user, without Premium.
3. Translate a whole chat or channel
With Telegram Premium, a bar at the top of a chat in another language offers to translate the whole chat. Tap it and every message is shown in your language as you scroll. Tap the bar again to show the original text.
4. Languages you do not want translated
In Settings, Language, open Do Not Translate and tick the languages you already read. Telegram will not offer to translate messages in those languages.
5. The Translate button is missing
- Check that Show Translate Button is on.
- Check that the message language is not in your Do Not Translate list.
- Update Telegram from the official store or telegram.org.
- Very short messages, or ones made only of emoji or links, may not show the button.
